Time for another laugh

That last copy editor cartoon was so popular that I'll offer another, though I don't enjoy this one as much.In an early job interview, I can remember the editor of a paper asking me why I wanted to be a copy editor, and I went on and on about my love of language and obsession with grammar. I threw in that clever "I even edit menus at restaurants." (Cringe.)

I suppose it's better than "Why, we're the last line of defense!" But not much.

I'm not a copy editor but even as a writer I can't put away that mental blue pencil. My favourite days are when I spot a mistake in the Economist. It happens so infrequently that I buy myself a big lunch when it does!

I'm not a copy editor either but I always spot menus, signage, television ads (it happens more than you might think!). The most recent was a sign in a Hooters in Auburn, Ala. "Wednesdays IS..." Yeesh!

I'm interested in what you would say now to the same question at a job interview?

It may take some work to comment about that in an interview today. At one of my interviews, we spent most of the time talking about hairline rules and which ones look the best.
